The 27-year-old, who successfully took over from club legend Will Warden last season, will lead the club once again as it looks to make an immediate impact in its return to National League 1.
Mitchell joined Richmond ahead of the 2015/16 season and has since made 91 first-team appearances. He previously captained Darlington Mowden Park in National League 1 and represented England counties.
The dynamic, hard-working centre, who works full-time as a property developer, will be an influential figure in Richmond’s determination to start the 2019/20 season strongly. Richmond travel north this Saturday in its first National 1 match against Mitchell’s former club, Darlington Mowden Park.
On being re-appointed captain, Mitchell said: “It’s a huge honour to be named the Richmond captain once again, the club has enormous history and it’s a massive privilege to lead the First XV.
“I learnt a huge amount from a great captain in Will Warden and really enjoyed my first season in the role last year. However I am looking forward to making this role my own and leading strongly as we embark on an important season for our club.
“We have learnt a lot in the last three seasons in the Championship and we are looking forward to making our mark in National 1. We feel we are strong enough, with a fresh and exciting squad, to make this season a huge success.”
Director of Rugby, Steve Hill, said: “Cam is a natural leader and we are delighted to confirm he will continue as our first-team captain. He has captained most of the teams he has been involved in since he started playing rugby, and made a significant difference in his first season in the role last year.
“Cam is always the first name on the team sheet and is a huge inspiration to those around him. He is a highly professional leader and we are thrilled that he will continue in this role.”
Richmond’s first home match of the 2019/20 season is against Chinnor RFC on Saturday 14th September (KO 3pm) at the Richmond Athletic Ground. To purchase your tickets click here.
