Southwark Tigers need your outgrown boots

As the beginning of the season gets ever nearer there are various topics which I thought it would be helpful to remind/advise you all of as before we know it the start of September will be upon us!

Richmond Kids Pre-Season Summer Camp Tues 29th – Thurs 31st August
The Richmond Kids Pre-Season Camp is just under 3 weeks away and will be held at the club on Tuesday 29th – Thursday 31st August for age groups Under 6 - Under 15.
The camp will be run by our new Head of Community, Dominic Palacio, and each day will be full of fun packed activities aimed to improve running, passing and kicking skills and provide an excellent warm up before the season begins properly - Sunday 3rd September is Mini/Youth Registration Day.
All coaches are RFU Level 2 qualified and hold current DBS certificates and there will be a dedicated first aid trained coach in attendance at all times.
The cost is £75 for 3 days, 1 day £30, and timings are 9.30am to 3.30pm with a free gift if you attend all 3 days.
A packed lunch and drinks are required as well as a gum shield if appropriate for your child’s age group, plus suitable clothing if it is wet and lots of sun cream if it is hot!
The camp is open to all boys and girls, not just Richmond members, so why not get a group of friends together and book in - a great way to use up all that summer holiday energy!

Pre-season games:
Blackheath v Richmond Saturday 19th August, Well Hall KO 4pm
The men’s first pre-season game is our traditional fixture against Blackheath and will take place this year on 19th August away at their Well Hall ground KO at the later time of 4pm

Richmond v London Irish Saturday 26th August KO 3pm – pre-match lunch
The next Saturday 26th August this year’s pre-season friendly home game will take place against old friends and rivals, London Irish KO at 3pm – and given the enquiries we are already fielding it is going to be a busy one.
Entrance is free to Richmond members on production of their 2016/17 membership card with the cost to non-members £10/head - children Under 16 go free.
It is not possible to pre book tickets which will only be available on the gate on the day.
However it is possible to book lunch as by popular demand we will be starting our pre-match lunches for this match so if you wish to book a place then please advise by return.
It will be a 2 course curry and cheese lunch cost £20

First games of the Season:
Richmond v Bedford Saturday 2nd September KO 5pm  - afternoon tea and Prosecco
The men FIRST XV’s first Championship game of the season takes place on Saturday 2nd September at home to Bedford and please note the later KO time of 5pm.
This is due to the fact that London Scottish have also been drawn at home that day against Yorkshire Carnegie and as it is their turn to take precedence they will KO first at 2pm. So a logistical challenge which ourselves, the RAA and London Scottish are working out as we speak!
It does mean that we will be using the Sports Bar for our pre match drinks and hospitality - and given the timings, and for something slightly different, we have decided that afternoon tea and Prosecco will be served from around 3.30pm. We fully appreciate that dainty cucumber sandwiches will not touch the sides of your average rugby supporter, so I would hastily add that the tea will be a robust affair consisting of sandwiches, scones with jam and cream, what else, and decent size cakes, none of your fondant fancies here! And then of course there is the Prosecco……………..and/or pots of tea if that is your preference. It will be served at tables as usual and the cost will be £20/head to include a programme but not match entrance.
I shall be interested to receive your views on such a radical change (!) and if you wish to book a place then please let me know as soon as possible.

Richmond v Ealing Saturday 9th September KO 3pm
Normal service will be resumed the following Saturday 9th September when the FIRST XV take on old opponents Ealing again at home but KO at the normal time of 3pm with lunch at 1pm.
This will be the usual 3 courses plus coffee although it has been necessary to make a small increase in the cost and the new price is £30/head which will continue to include a match programme but not match entrance.
Bookings for this lunch are also open.

Richmond Women news
Our WOMEN are off to Newbury for their preseason game/s on Sunday 20th August before their season in the new Tyrell’s Premier 15s starts on Sunday 17th September – click here for news of the new competition and details of the fixtures.

And congratulations to our England players, Alex Matthews and Kay Wilson who figured so prominently in the first pool game of the Womens Rugby World Cup which KO yesterday in Dublin when England defeated Spain 56 – 5 with Kay scoring 4 tries and Alex 1. We wish them continued success in the tournament and are very proud of our Richmond Roses.

Southwark Tigers need your outgrown boots
We are delighted to be continuing our association with Southwark Tigers for another season, a club which is run by an inspirational team of volunteers and provides rugby for kids growing up in some of the most deprived areas of the capital.
They are always in need of boots/trainers for their kids who are unable to afford to buy their own so as you prepare for the new season please do remember that they will be delighted to provide a good home for any such out grown footwear.
If you are unable to get the boots to me beforehand then just bring them along on the first Sunday of the new season, 3rd September onwards.
