Richmond Ready For Coventry Showdown

After blowing Hartpury away to pick up a first bonus point win of the season, Richmond are back at the RAG for a second week on the bounce as they welcome Championship new boys Coventry on Saturday (3pm kick off).

Despite losing both their away games thus far, Coventry have settled nicely into the league so far, and have two wins to their name already, not to mention having pushed London Irish all the way in a 21-17 defeat last weekend.

A big win on Saturday was great for the confidence, but Richmond aren’t getting carried away just yet, with the win very much the priority again, according to last week’s man of the match, Luc Jones. “It’s important to back up a good performance with another one, but performances don’t help you climb up the table so we just need a win,” he said this week. “I don’t really mind if it’s a four point or a five point win.”

Two familiar faces return to the Richmond squad this week, with 132-cap prop Danny Parkinson stepping back into the first team fold after impressing for the lower sides in recent weeks. Alongside him on the bench, club captain Cam Mitchell makes his return from suspension, and there is little doubt he’ll be raring to get on the field.

It’s testament to the side’s performance last week that Director of Rugby Steve Hill has opted to keep Mitchell in reserve, naming an unchanged side for Coventry’s visit. That means Cam Hudson and Ronnie McLean continue in the centres, with the impressive back three of Jono Woodward, Rob Kirby and Jordan Simpson-Hefft tasked with keeping Coventry busy.

After a huge performance at the set piece last week, it’s no surprise the pack remains unchanged, with Jesse Liston once again captaining from the back row, where Ed Milne and Jake Parker alongside him will look to cause trouble with ball in hand.
