Remembrance Sunday Ceremony
Sunday is of course Remembrance Sunday and we will be holding our usual short ceremony in front of the War Memorial Board from 10.45am to remember all those of the Richmond family and beyond who have given their lives in the service of their country and for the cause of freedom.
Lest We Forget
This will be a time to particularly remember those that died in the First World Way in this the centenary year of the end of that war - and I would draw your attention to this article written by club member Paul Grindrod which is especially poignant and very relevant this weekend – click here
Later in the day the Armistice Centenary Legends match will take place on the main pitch – see below for further details and how to purchase tickets in advance:
Mike Tindall to captain international side in Armistice Centenary legends rugby match at Richmond Athletic Ground
On Sunday 11th November, the Armistice 100 Remembrance Rugby Match between a Rugby for Heroes International XV and a French Legends XV will be played here at Richmond Athletic Ground kicking off at 3pm.
The event is being held in aid of Rugby for Heroes and The Royal British Legion and will see a Rugby for Heroes International XV full of ex-professional players from across the world, take on a French Legends XV, captained by ex-France international and Wasps legend Serge Betsen. Players confirmed as representing Rugby for Heroes so far include England Rugby World Cup winners Mike Tindall and Iain Balshaw, ex-Australia international Justin Harrison, ex-South Africa international Thinus Delport, ex-Fiji international Nicky Little, ex-Wales international Ian Gough and Great Britain rugby league legends Sean Long and Keith Senior.
As the nation marks 100 years since the end of the First World War, this commemorative match will honour all the rugby players who gave the ultimate sacrifice during the war. It is fitting that the match will be played at the home of two of the world’s oldest clubs – Richmond FC and London Scottish FC – who together lost more than 160 players in the First World War.
Tickets are £10 for adults and £5 for children/concessions. Tickets are available to purchase in advance at www.rugbyforheroesarmistice100.eventbrite.com or via the charity’s website at www.rugbyforheroes.org.uk
Pre-match hospitality is available in the Members Lounge and will include a three-course lunch with half bottle of wine, reserved seating in the grandstand, pre- and post-match player Q&A/meet and greet, matchday programme and charity auction.
