Richmond Name Squad To Face Plymouth Albion
Richmond have made four changes to its starting XV for tomorrow’s crucial National League 1 fixture against Plymouth Albion (KO 3pm).
Following successive defeats to Rosslyn Park and Sale FC, the home side will be looking to reignite their exciting form and record their 10th victory of the season. They’re up against a tough Plymouth Albion outfit, who despite sitting in 13th place, will arrive at the Athletic Ground full of confidence with strong victories over Birmingham Moseley, Sale FC and Cinderford in recent weeks.
In the forwards, there’s a start for powerful lock Chris Allman who will look to take advantage of his promotion to the run-on squad. The 27-year-old has been performing strongly from the bench over the last few weeks and gets his opportunity to cement his place in the side. The rest of the pack remains unchanged and will be eager to deliver a far improved performance following last Saturday’s 8-7 defeat to Sale.
In the backs, Jamie Gibbs returns to the squad and will make his 128th First XV appearance at scrum-half, while there’s a proud moment for electric wing Louis Molloy who will become the latest player to make his first-team debut. The 24-year-old, who studied at Durham University, has performed consistently for the Vikings this season and will get the chance to make an exciting statement in front of a big home crowd.
The backline also features the return of Morgan Ward who has been selected to partner Cam Mitchell in the centres. The playmaker has been rewarded for his form over the last few weeks and will make his first appearance for 2019/20, earning his 10th First XV cap.
Director of Rugby Steve Hill, said: “The players were very disappointed following our defeat to Sale FC but to their credit they have been exceptional this week at training. The level of intensity has lifted and the guys are extremely determined to get back to winnings ways. Plymouth are going to be a huge challenge, they have a very physical pack and will look to expose us if we’re not careful. As a coaching group we’re very confident in the squad selected and it’s great to see a First XV debut for Louis Molloy and a return in the centres for Morgan Ward. It will be exciting to see how they both perform.”
