The Breakdown: Richmond Women Suffer 20-10 Defeat
Richmond Women have suffered their eight defeat of the 2019/20 season, falling to a 20-10 loss away against Firwood Waterloo Women.
In a tough Tyrrells Premier 15s fixture, Richmond fought gallently scoring two tries through wing Ellie Boatman but ultimately fell short against a club determined to secure their first win of the season.
It was a disappointing afternoon for Richmond, who despite scoring the first try of the match in the 19th minute, made a number of handling errors in crucial parts of the pitch, handing possession and momentum to Waterloo.
With the home side leading 13-5 at half-time, Richmond looked determined to get back into the fixture in the second 40, but soon found themselves even further behind when Lauren Perrin crossed for her second try of the afternoon to give Waterloo the 20-5 lead.
Richmond did hit back once more with Boatman touching down for her second of the match in the 69th minute, following a string of quick hands, but by then Waterloo had done enough to cement their first victory of the 2019/20 season.
Meanwhile, in much better news the Richmond Women's 2nd XV recorded an impressive 41-12 victory over Waterloo in the Tyrrells Premier 15s Development League. The win is their second of the season and means they move up to seventh on the table.
Richmond’s next Tyrrells Premier 15s fixture is against Wasps Ladies next Sunday 15th December at the Athletic Ground (KO 3:30pm). Tickets are £5 and can be purchased at the gate.
