Richmond Name Squad To Face Bishop’s Stortford

Hooker Ross Grimstone will make his 100th First XV appearance as Richmond welcome Bishop’s Stortford to the Athletic Ground tomorrow afternoon (KO 3pm).

The experienced 29-year-old will join an illustrious list of current players to have reached 100 Richmond caps, including the likes of Cam Mitchell, Rob Kirby, Timmy Walford, Will Warden and Jamie Gibbs.

Upon being selected for his 100th cap, Grimstone said: “It’s a really special moment for me. To be part of such an amazing club has always meant a huge amount and I can’t wait to get out there tomorrow with the boys, play well and hopefully secure another strong win.”

With Richmond holding a two point lead at the top of the National League 1 table, tomorrow’s home fixture against Bishop’s Stortford is another hugely important challenge as they look to maintain their slim advantage over second placed Rosslyn Park and last week’s opponents, Rams.

The Richmond forward pack features three changes to the side that out muscled Rams last Saturday afternoon, with prop Kurt Schonert earning his first start in the front-row, replacing David Banfield, while Chris Allman moves from flanker to second-row in place of Will Warden. The back-row trio includes last week’s Player of the Match Jake Parker at number 8, alongside powerful flankers Jesse Liston and Andrew Boyce who both earn a recall to the starting team.

In the backs, new recruit Charlie Mulchrone has been selected to make his first start for Richmond at scrum-half, while Louis Lynagh returns to the club following his Harlequins’ duties and replaces the injured Louis Molloy at fullback. There’s also a welcomed return for powerful centre Ronnie Mclean who makes his first appearance since October.
