Previous Season Round Up

What a year! After introducing rucking and mauling this year, the u10s opened successfully with an unbeaten run in the Richmond tournament in October. Taking on the contact has been something the boys have been looking forward to and everyone has been keen to learn and improve their technique.

An invitation from Hampstead Heath to play at the HAC was well received and Richmond u10s took a group to play in some dire conditions (gale force winds and hail) to play in their first ever ‘game of two halves’. Showing true grit after going down 3-0 in the hail, the boys fought back and narrowly lost 7-6.

Unbeaten runs for teams in tournaments at London Scottish, Ealing, Cobham and Reigate we’re to follow, with the season culminating in a very well attended tour!

First up were Pontypridd, a team with a proud sporting heritage. With the spring sunshine beating down, Richmond once again found themselves 3-0 down after the first quarter. With the scores at 6-5 going into the final quarter, Richmond managed to score two excellent tries to win the game in the sunshine. Ponty were excellent hosts and we were stunned by their hospitality and sportsmanship after the game.

Finally came Riwhbiner RFC, (junior club of a certain Sam Warburton) whose challenge was not in the least trying to work out how to pronounce the name! After a tiring match the day before, battling a strong team who were extremely well drilled, was probably a step too far for the boys who struggled to keep them scoring freely in the final minutes. However this didn’t take the shine of an excellent tour and we look forward in anticipation to next year.

Thanks to all who have helped coach, organise, collect money, supported and encouraged from the sidelines and a big thank you to all the players. We really wouldn’t be able to do it without you!
