We are excited about the new season when we begin the transition into contact rugby. They will all get to play scrum half as well as learning how to present the ball after contact.
The U8s have had very enjoyable year playing tag rugby. The Autumn began with two teams heading to enjoy the view of Windsor Castle, at the Windsor Festival, with the remainder at home, hosting our guests at our Autumn Festival. London Scottish hosted a huge festival at home which we got to take two teams to and play some new clubs. Ealing provided another great festival in November with over 50 U8 teams. Supporting the First XV in their match against Cornish Pirates was fun and they learnt the Cornish chants of Oggy Oggy Oggy!
The U9s organised a fantastic Mini-Parents evening which was very well supported and huge thanks must got to Michelle for organising it. The Mini Christmas Party was very well supported and thanks must go to all the managers and their helpers for providing enough food to feed all the mini’s and quite a lot of hungry Coaches as well!
A trip to Bank of England sports ground in the New Year was enjoyable, as always, and very well supported by the U8s. Just before the arrival of the beast from the east, we took all of the U8s to the Teddington Festival, on a cold, but gloriously sunny morning. With some fantastic rugby played by all the U8s, we received the Sportsmanship award. We also outnumber the hosts, in terms of players! And two tents made for a warm home between games! The beast arrived and then went, just in time for the Richmond Spring Festival, which saw 6 Richmond U8s teams playing and the hot dogs were very well received, huge thanks to Cantell Sales & Lettings for sponsoring the event.
Another splash of snow and the London Welsh festival was bumped by a week, which saw us having to field teams at London Welsh and the Dorking festivals on the same morning. Out of the 26 clubs and 5 ages groups we were the only group to be at both festivals. The Dorking festival will be remembered for some great rugby and a lot of candy floss!
We joined the U6s on guard of honour duty, for the fixture of the year, against London Scottish in glorious spring sunshine, the first 82 minutes were fantastic!
