Century of Commitment: Toby Saysell’s 100th Cap Celebration

Freya Portway18 Mar - 18:30

A landmark moment for a Richmond stalwart, marked with passion, pride, and a true club tradition.

On a crisp, sunlit afternoon, Richmond Rugby’s Toby Saysell celebrated a major milestone, earning his 100th cap for the club. It was a game to remember, with Saysell putting in a fantastic performance, embodying the grit and commitment that have defined his Richmond career.

Following the final whistle, the club paid tribute to his achievement in front of the home crowd. Head Coach Rob Powell presented him with a special 100th cap shirt, a moment met with warm applause from teammates and supporters alike. A brief on-pitch interview with the match announcer allowed Saysell to share his thoughts on the occasion before the formal presentations commenced.

Club President James Foster, alongside Saysell’s sponsor Brad Day and Richmond Rugby Chairman, Nick Preston, then had the honour of presenting him with the traditional Richmond cap and tie—symbols of his dedication to the club. The celebration didn’t end there. In true Richmond style, Saysell rounded off the occasion with a pint of Guinness, a glass of red wine, and a shot of whiskey—the club’s colours in liquid form.

Saysell was also accompanied pitchside by his wife and daughter who were there to soak in all the celebrations for the newest Richmond centurion. Reflecting on the milestone, Saysell said, "This is a special group of lads, and it's an honour to play alongside them."

Head of Rugby Rob Powell noted “This is an outstanding achievement for a wonderful servant to the club over the last decade. He epitomises what we want from our team with his level of care and doing his best.”

A fitting tribute to a player who has given so much to Richmond Rugby, and a day that will surely live long in the memory.
