This Saturday, Richmond Rugby will run out at the Athletic Ground for the final time this season, and what better way to close the curtain than with one of rugby’s oldest and greatest rivalries.
We welcome Blackheath to the RAG for a fixture that dates back161 years. This is a clash built on mutual respect, deep-rooted history, and the enduring values of community rugby. Richmond and Blackheath are more than clubs, they’re institutions of the game, shaped by volunteers, families and generations of players who’ve worn the jersey with pride.
With the National League 1 title already secured, Richmond will look to round off a majestic campaign with one final statement. Discipline, unity, and connection have defined this team from the first whistle in September. And now, they have one last chance to put the perfect full stop on a season that will live long in the memory.
Player Spotlight: Will Goffey (Richmond Rugby)
Will Goffey has been one of Richmond’s most consistent performers throughout the season, bringing energy, accuracy and edge to every game he’s played, and he’s played in every single one.
A relentless workhorse in the front row, Will combines technical strength at the set piece with relentless work around the park. His ability to be match-ready week after week in one of rugby’s most demanding positions is a credit to his fitness, preparation and commitment to the group.
This is his first season at Richmond after joining from Hartpury, and he’s made a real impact both on and off the field. He’s scored eight tries so far - the third highest in the squad, and continues to be a threat close to the line. Around the club, he’s known for keeping spirits high and setting standards in equal measure.
Previously a representative for England at the Sanix Youth World Championships in Japan with Exeter College, Will has settled into senior rugby with confidence and control. He’s been a key figure in this title-winning season, and a player who no doubt will put in a shift until the last whistle.
One to Watch: Jake Lloyd (Blackheath)
For Blackheath, few players have been more influential this year than winger Jake Lloyd. A sharp runner with exceptional footwork and a lethal turn of pace, Lloyd is equally dangerous under the high ball and off broken play. His experience, positioning and game management offer calm in the chaos, and he remains one of the most consistent performers in National League1. If Blackheath are to spoil the party, expect Lloyd to be right at the heart of it.
