Club member Paul Lowenstein is going above and beyond to support the humanitarian crisis in Ukraine.

Richmond member and Under 8s Head Coach Paul Lowenstein QC and his son Jonah, have recently returned from driving a cargo of medical and humanitarian supplies to the Ukraine /Poland border. Their journey was reported in the London Evening Standard.

Since his return, Paul has been matching Ukrainian refugees with host families in England, and raising money for nimble, focussed relief efforts. The first project raised more than £18,000 to buy and run minivans in Ukraine to transport civilians out of the war zones and to shuttle medical and humanitarian aid into the worst affected areas. Much of this money was raised by donations from the Richmond Spring Minis Festival in March.

The second project continues to raise funds to buy specialist medical items and equipment which, working with doctors in England and brave Ukrainians, are being sent rapidly and assuredly to places where they are most needed. So far, more than £25,000 has been raised and spent on bandages, specialist splints and life-saving supplies, portable defibrillators, and ultrasound machines. This cargo, the first after Paul and Jonah’s, was shipped to known contacts in Ukraine within 24 hours of being received into the English team’s store.

Richmond members/supporters will doubtless already have donated to the DEC and to other worthwhile causes for the relief of Ukraine. If, however, they wish to assist with Paul’s efforts, they can make a donation by CLICKING HERE.
