Richmond return to The Richmond Athletic Ground this Saturday for a colossal clash against in-form Plymouth Albion. Riding a 10-game unbeaten streak, Albion have surged to 3rd in the table, but Richmond stand in their way, determined to disrupt their momentum and fight to stay on top once again.
This fixture carries extra significance as club stalwart Toby Saysell makes his 100th appearance for Richmond. A relentless openside flanker, Saysell has risen through the ranks over nine seasons, becoming a cornerstone of Richmond’s pack. As captain, he’ll be determined to mark his centurion milestone with a statement victory.
Despite last week’s 35-35 draw at Birmingham Moseley, Richmond remain five points clear at the top. With the final stretch of the season approaching, every match is crucial in the title race.
The last meeting between these two sides saw Richmond edge a 20-15 victory in Plymouth, the last team to beat Albion before their winning streak began. Now, with home advantage and our lead at the summit on the line, Richmond must rise to the challenge again.
A large portion of Albion’s success has been built on the abrasive, physical dominance of their pack, spearheaded by powerhouse prop Ethan Burger (on loan from Exeter Chiefs), who starred in their recent statement win over 2nd-placed Rotherham, securing a try and putting on a player of the match performance at Brickfields. Expect an intense battle at the breakdown and a high-stakes contest across the pitch.
Richmond thrive in big moments. With a fired-up squad and a home crowd behind us, We will be ready to stop Albion in their tracks and extend their lead at the top.
